About the place
A building that has always known freedom
The Embassy of the Free Mind is housed in a national monument on the Keizersgracht, built in 1622. For four centuries it has been a sanctuary for freethinkers, philosophers and those who dare to ask the deeper questions.
In the 17th century, Spinoza walked these rooms. Dissidents found refuge here. Forbidden books of wisdom were preserved within these walls. The building carries that history in every stone.
